About

From the Mississippi Delta to the East Coast to the West Coast then back to the Delta (whew)

My name is Sue Anna Joe, and I was born and raised in Greenwood, Mississippi. I graduated from Mississippi State then lived out of state for a long time. In 2020 I designed the magnolia that's on Mississippi's state flag. I returned to Greenwood in 2022.

Why Mississippi pins?

I used to do graphic design professionally years ago, then I transitioned to web development (HTML and CSS, some JavaScript). Design uses a different part of the brain, and that part started yelling at me after I moved back to Greenwood. So I figured it was time to close Sublime Text, open up Illustrator, and do something more artsy-fartsy. The result: these Mississippi pins.

The themes and designs of these hard enamel pins came out of my personal feelings about Greenwood, the Delta, and Mississippi as a whole. I hope they resonate with you in your own way as they do with me.

Who this is Susie Hustle running your Mississippi pin shop?

A while back the name "Susie Hustle" popped into my head for no reason. I think it was a build up of memories. I've always liked Pete Rose's nickname, and when I was a kid in PE, we were always told to hustle. (That's Mississippi culture for you.) I like to think that I'm a hard-working, disciplined person, so "Susie Hustle" probably wasn't a random thought after all.

When I designed my Mississippi pins, I didn't want to use my real name. So when I decided to sell online, I made the Susie Hustle logo and slapped it on my Etsy shop.

But wait! I have more pins!

I also designed a collection of pins geared toward writers, word lovers, and introverts. They are available for purchase on Pinultimate. ❤︎
